Words of Welcome

EANM Scientific Events Council Chair

Words of Welcome by Valentina Garibotto, Chair of the EANM Scientific Events Council (SEC)

Dear colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 39th EANM Annual Congress (EANM’26), which will take place in Vienna on October 17-21, 2026.

At a time when nuclear medicine is evolving at an unprecedented pace, the EANM Annual Congress is increasingly established as key moment to pause, reflect, and collectively define the directions that will shape our field. Like in previous congress editions, EANM’26 is being designed not only to present the latest advances, but also to foster critical dialogue on how innovation, evidence, and collaboration can be translated into meaningful impact for patients and healthcare systems worldwide.

The scientific programme of the congress is developed under a renewed governance model. As Chair of the EANM Scientific Events Council Chair, I oversee the programme together with seven distinguished experts. This newly created EANM Council, launched in January 2026, reflects our commitment to diversity of expertise, openness of perspectives, and scientific excellence. The result is a programme that is both rigorous and forward-looking, shaped by collective intelligence rather than individual vision.

EANM’26 will highlight outstanding research across the full spectrum of nuclear medicine, from breakthrough developments in theranostics and radiopharmaceutical sciences to innovative imaging technologies, quantitative approaches, and clinical translation. As always, the strength of the congress lies in the quality of the science you bring — your research, your curiosity, and your willingness to challenge established paradigms.

Beyond scientific content, the congress aims to stimulate interaction across disciplines, professional backgrounds, and generations. Engaging and empowering younger colleagues remains a strategic priority, as they will drive the next transformations of our specialty. Creating spaces for dialogue, mentorship, and exchange is essential to ensure that progress remains sustainable and inclusive; and we will make sure to embrace this aspect again during our congress.

I truly look forward to welcoming you to Vienna, home of the EANM Executive Office and a city where scientific excellence meets rich artistic and cultural heritage. From architecture to music and philosophy, Vienna embodies the creativity, rigour, and innovation that thrive when disciplines intersect.

In this inspiring setting, I invite you to engage, exchange, and co-create the future of nuclear medicine with us!
